Bryan Davis Art

I am a large scale ceramic sculptor!

Bryan Davis was born and raised in Steinbeck Country; Salinas, California. He knew at a very young age that he wanted to be a sculptor. Before he even graduated high school, Davis began studying ceramics at Hartnell College. With the aid of Gary Smith, his first teacher, he quickly learned the art of sculpting and began focusing on large scale projects. When Bryan moved to the Bay Area he trveled from studio to studio, constantly fighting battles for work space in the over taxed community college art facilities.

In 2003 Davis was awarded a merit scholarship to study at the San Francisco Art Institute. Upon arriving at SFAI he immediately began his first major piece. The Oni demons took a massive amount of time, resources and engineering to pull off. After spending nearly the entire first portion of his first year at the institute, they were finished. When he went to exhibit them, he again encountered the same difficulties of dealing with space. Forced to exhibit only one of the four pieces in a small room at the CCACA conference, the Oni have gone largely unseen. Bryan Davis has a strong interest in expressing his work in a satirical way. People often find his work playful or funny, however it is when Davis shows us this darker side that his work is at its best.
