Connect One Adds Embedded LAN Module to Nano Reach Family

Connect One has added an embedded LAN module to its Nano Reach family, tying nonPC, M2M devices to 10/100BaseT networks with minimal programming. Nano LANReach is an integrated hardware/software solution, providing RJ45 LAN connectivity along with complex Internet operations such as e-mail, FTP, SSL, embedded web servers, etc.

San Diego, CA, December 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- iChip™-based implementations enable sub-$10 embedded Serial-LAN solution

Connect One™, the Device Networking Authority™, today released Nano LANReach, an embedded LAN module that quickly and easily connects any embedded device to 10/100BaseT LANs with minimal programming. Measuring only 2.5x3.5 centimeters including a built-in RJ45 connector, the Nano LANReach’s extensive firmware functionality makes it the most affordable and versatile LAN solution for embedded devices today.

Based on Connect One’s CO2144 chip, Nano LANReach offers plug-and-play serial-to-LAN functionality enabling immediate and full–featured LAN connectivity by connecting an Ethernet cable to the onboard RJ45 connector. In addition, Nano LANReach includes a full suite of Internet protocols, applications, and security engines.

As part of the Nano Reach product family, the Nano LANReach uses the same pin-out as the Nano WiReach WiFi module. This enhances customer’s flexibility in production planning, allowing for a single PCB design which supports either LAN or WiFi connectivity, depending on the module added during assembly.

Large-volume customers can build a sub-$10 embedded serial-to-LAN solution identical to the Nano LANReach functionality by using Connect One’s iChip. By adding an iChip CO2144/2128/2064 and any MII/RMII PHY to the main PCB, companies can migrate current applications while making significant design cost savings. Reference designs outlining the transition can be downloaded from Connect One’s website.

Nano LANReach’s firmware supports several modes of operation:

· Serial-to-LAN bridge — enabling transparent bridging of serial data over LAN using the module’s high-speed UART. The module supports TCP, UDP or SSL tunneling of serial data.
· Full Internet controller mode — allowing simple microcontrollers to use the Nano LANReach’s rich protocol and application capabilities to perform complex Internet operations such as e-mail, FTP, SSL, embedded web server and others. Internet controller mode can be used with any hardware interface.

Nano LANReach offers a highly advanced level of Internet security, including the latest Internet SSL encryption algorithms. In addition, it serves as an inherent firewall, protecting the embedded application from attacks originating from the Internet.

“Customers are looking for easy and cost-effective ways to connect their embedded devices to LAN,” noted Ariel Shulman, Vice President Sales for Connect One. “Nano LANReach offers an immediate solution, reducing time to market and allowing customers to launch cost-effective LAN-enabled products. Since Nano LANReach is based on Connect One’s iChip, customers can easily switch to a chip-based implementation embedded on their own PCB, which typically reduces the complete solution cost to under $10.”

Nano LANReach includes USB, SPI and fast UART interfaces for easy integration into existing or new designs. In addition to SerialNET, it supports 10 simultaneous TCP/UDP sockets; two listening TCP sockets; SMTP, MIME, POP3, FTP, Telnet, and HTTP/HTTPS clients; an HTTP/HTTPS embedded web server with a website for the host application and one for configuring the module. Nano LANReach also supports AES-128/256, SHA-128/192/256, 3DES, the SSL3/TLS1 protocol for a secure client socket session, and a secure FTP session.

The module operates at an industrial temperature range of -40° to 85°C (-40° to 185°F) and is RoHS-compliant.

Nano LANReach is immediately available. Pricing starts at $38. The $160 II-EVB-363ML evaluation board provides an easy environment for developing applications and testing Nano LANReach. For more information about Nano LANReach, please visit www.connectone.com.
