New Calculator Shows DIY Debt Settlement Savings

Personal finance company publishes online calculator consumers can use to estimate the savings they can realize through do-it-yourself debt settlement as compared to professional debt settlement services.

Columbia, MD, January 21, 2009 --( The National Financial Awareness Network (NFAN) is welcoming the New Year with a custom-designed do-it-yourself debt settlement savings calculator which estimates the money consumers can save by choosing the do-it-yourself route over professional, third-party debt settlement services.

Visitors to the website enter the amount of unsecured debt they have, click the submit button and the calculator will estimate how much savings they can realize through negotiated settlements and from not having to pay service fees to a professional debt settlement company. For example, a consumer with $36,000 of unsecured debt can save an estimated $23,400 through $18,000 in settlement savings and a savings of $5,400 that would normally go to a debt settlement company's professional service fees.

"The Do-It-Yourself Debt Settlement Kit is valuable just for the information it provides," explained John Janney, President of NFAN. "But you bring out the true, tangible value when you can put it into real numbers that can really change your life."

The Do-It-Yourself Debt Settlement Kit is the popular 5-hour audio seminar and workbook that explains how consumers can negotiate balance-reduction agreements with creditors to settle unsecured debt accounts, such as credit cards and medical debt. The Kit now includes access to courses from the new Debt Relief University, which provides additional hours of multimedia presentations to further explain aspects of the debt settlement process.

"Debt settlement companies do provide a valuable service," said Maggie Beetz, Senior Financial Literacy Writer at NFAN. "However, there are a lot of people who would like to save a few extra thousand dollars by negotiating their own debt settlements."
