Bubba Gets Buzzed

Bubba, the star of Richard “Dixie” Hartwell’s novel, When the Buddha Met Bubba, is getting some well-deserved buzz.

Mentone, AL, May 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- “Bubba is a character that common folks from cotton pickers to computer programmers can relate to. He’s likable, funny and completely politically incorrect,” said Susan Lee, whose company—Susan Lee Consulting—is doing the pr and marketing for the novel. “Marketing Bubba is easy because of who he is and what he stands for. His evolution from redneck loser to enlightened being is both witty and heartwarming.”

Susan Lee’s non-traditional marketing efforts seem to be paying off. In just the past few days two new avenues to market Bubba have surfaced: a blog and a fan club.

The blog was a great way for the book and its writer, Dixie Hartwell, to take their message to the people. “Dixie has a lot to say by himself and through Bubba. I think readers will be delighted by what shows up on the blogs,” Lee said.

When the Buddha Met Bubba Fan Club is an open group in the social networking site, Facebook. “The fan club was a fun idea we had that is really starting to take off,” Lee explained. “It has just been a few days and we keep getting new members all the time. Americans—Southerners especially—are hungry to read intelligent writing from their own about their own. When the Buddha Met Bubba delivers a positive, upbeat message that will unite red and blue states with a bunch of good laughs.”

In addition to the blog and fan club, Bubba is getting his props from the publishing and film industry. Last week, When the Buddha Met Bubba preorder was #13 in Tower Books list of Top 100 and this week it has risen to #12. And the book hasn’t even come out yet. This past weekend, Hartwell was contacted by Steve Richerson of Concrete Dream, Inc. (an Alabama film and video production company) about a possible Bubba movie. Richerson said, “In a way, I think I've been trying to share its message through entertainment... my whole life.”

Hartwell, who likes to be called “Dixie,” is thrilled with all the excitement generated around When The Buddha Met Bubba. “I poured my heart and soul into this quirky novel and to see it appreciated brings me a great deal of satisfaction.”
