Meet the World Traveler Interns

About Chris Danner

The lifelong Bay Area resident has a habit of combining two of his passions – volunteer work and art – with his travel. Twice during high school, Danner traveled with his classmates to Baja California, Mexico, where he provided art therapy for young children and researched local watersheds used in sea turtle conservation. In 2005, he took another volunteer trip, this time to San Blas Islands, Panama, where he helped build a school for the local Kuna tribe. On the art side, Danner spent a semester during high school in Rome, Italy, taking classes in art history and Italian.

When it comes to leisure travel, Danner is no slouch either having his passport stamped in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy, Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, Greece, India, and Canada.

About Lindsay Clark

A native of Wabash, Indiana, Clark is no stranger to the airport. Clark personifies what a world traveler is. After graduating in May 2008 from Indiana University, she planned a seven-month, global circumnavigation with stops in 24 countries across Europe, Africa and Asia. This trip brought her total number of countries visited to 37. She also participated in a Semester at Sea and two study abroad programs – one in Florence and the other in Umbria, Italy. Her passion for travel is evident in her work as a freelance travel writer sharing her travel experiences with others.

Selection Process

Chris and Lindsay were selected for this once-in-a-lifetime experience after a stringent application process designed to reveal true world travelers. For the first round, each had to submit sample blog posts, a formal resume and a run-down of their travel experiences, along with a video showcasing why they should be selected as one of two World Traveler Interns.

After being selected as one of the top 20 applicants from the initial pool of more than 700 applicants, each then had to go through a grueling phone interview with the STA Travel judges before being selected as one of the finalists.

Being named to the shortlist of 10 finalists earned Chris and Lindsay a free luggage set from Jansport, along with the opportunity to create a second video showcasing their favorite local spots that they thought would be the kind of place an STA traveler should visit if they ever made it to their hometown.
