New Website Features the World’s 101 Best Holidays

Beaminster, United Kingdom, June 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Combining 40 years of travel journalism for the UK’s leading national newspapers, David Wickers and Mark Hodson have downloaded their experience and expertise into a new website www.101holidays.co.uk. David and Mark have selected what they believe to be this year’s top travel experiences for UK holidaymakers.

The inspiration behind the new venture was the countless times both writers were hounded for advice and asked by friends and family: “So, where should I go on holiday?”

The new site aims to put the fun back into researching holidays. Rather than trawling through scores of brochures and websites, a unique visual search allows users to browse through David and Mark’s chosen 101 holidays.

The range of holidays featured on www.101holidays.co.uk is diverse, including both budget options such as B&Bs on the Isle of Wight and self-catering on the Île de Ré, and holidays of a lifetime (Orient Express to Venice, Monaco Grand Prix, polar bears in the Arctic) as well as offbeat trips (rafting the Soca River in Slovenia, surfing in Bahia). It also includes advice on the best ways to experience such classic journeys as a cruise on the Nile and trekking in Nepal.

“We have pooled our knowledge of the holiday scene to make what had to be a ruthless cull. The site is simple: it aims to present choices of where to go, and which travel company does it best,” explains David.

“There are thousands of tour operators and destinations out there, all vying for your custom, and it’s a struggle to know where to go, and who you should book with. Searching online can be frustrating and confusing. We’ve simplified the whole process by selecting our take on the best around the world,” adds Mark.

Holidays can be searched by image, as well as by price range, type of experience and destination. Users are presented with the editors’ verdict and a short description of the holiday. To find out more they can click through to the recommended company’s website. Rather than inundate visitors with choices, there will only ever be 101 holidays featured on the site.

www.101holidays.co.uk also offers a useful ‘Ask The Experts’ forum for travel-related questions, advice and dilemmas where emails will be personally answered by David or Mark.

David and Mark are joined by Catherine Leech who manages the new business on a day to day basis. She has more than 25 years’ experience working in the travel industry in both marketing and tour operating roles.
