New Company Keeps Copier Parts Out of Landfill

Evergreen Technologies manufactures large-format copier parts that last longer and cost less than OEM parts. The firm also recycles the parts it replaces, keeping them forever out of the landfill.

Baltimore, MD, October 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Wide-Format Veteran Works to Keep Parts Out of the Landfill

Carl Byrne's new company engineers long-life, lower-cost copier parts.

During Carl Byrne's nearly 30-year career for Xerox's Engineering Products Division, he saw many thousands of expensive copier parts fail because a single component wore out. Developer seal kits, fuser rollers, power supplies, and many other parts died prematurely because of one weak element. There had to be a better way.

"It amazed me how much money was going into the trash," Byrne says. "Not only were these failed parts costing users money to replace, but the parts themselves ended up in the waste stream. It was crazy."

Last year Byrne finally got his chance to do something about it. He founded Evergreen Technologies. Evergreen designs, rebuilds, and manufactures replacement parts for engineering copiers that are designed to outlive the OEM parts. They cost less and last longer.

For example, Evergreen designed a replacement fuser drive gear for the 8850/510 that uses a cutting edge plastic that holds up to the high temperatures of the 8850/510 fuser area. It comes with a full lifetime warranty, except in the case of fuser bearing failure. And Evergreen recycles the failed gears, keeping them out of the landfill.

"Anyone who services the 8850/510 knows this gear fails on a regular basis," Byrne says. "Our high-strength version of this gear saves many times the purchase cost of the part. These savings are realized not only through avoiding future gear failures. The big savings are labor costs avoided and improved customer satisfaction."

Other long-life parts currently available include the A/C Module, Developer Seal Kit, and Fuser Heat Roller for the 8850/510, and the 7346/56 Stall Detector.
