Carmel Pharma/PhaSeal Exhibiting at Booth #720 at ONS IOL

Offerings to include Live pH Test demonstrations, Wii giveaway and more.

Columbus, OH, October 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Carmel Pharma, manufacturer of the PhaSeal System for the safe handling of hazardous drugs, will be exhibiting at Booth #720 during the 10th Annual ONS Institutes of Learning. Ongoing booth offerings will give attendees the opportunity to conduct a hands-on test to evaluate today’s vial transfer devices (aka the pH Test), win a Nintendo Wii and more.

Designed to illustrate the leakproof connection integrity of today’s available vial transfer devices, the pH Test uses ordinary lemon juice (which simulates drug across both preparation and administration manipulations) and litmus strips to determine if there is an occurrence of leakage. In similar tests – including the “Contamination Comparison of Transfer Devices Intended for Handling Hazardous Drugs” recently published in Hospital Pharmacy – PhaSeal has been the only vial transfer device to meet the leakproof and airtight definition of a CSTD.

The 10th Annual ONS Institutes of Learning will be held in Tampa, FL at the Tampa Convention Center Friday, November 13th through Sunday, November 15th. Exhibit hours are from 8:30-10:30am, 12-2:15pm and 5:30-7pm on Friday and from 8-9:30am and 12:30-2:30pm on Saturday.

PhaSeal is more than a system for the safe handling of hazardous drugs. It’s the only clinically proven closed-system drug transfer device (CSTD) available today and is validated by more than 10 independent, peer-reviewed, published clinical studies. Distinguished by prominent thought leaders as the “Gold Standard” in safe handling, PhaSeal’s airtight Expansion Chamber and leakproof Double Membrane connections prevent exposure to hazardous drugs, including aerosols and vapors, and make it the only system that meets the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP) definition of a true CSTD. Its streamlined design and universally-compatible components make the system easy to use from preparation and administration to waste disposal.

The PhaSeal System is manufactured by Carmel Pharma AB in Gothenburg, Sweden and is distributed from its U.S. affiliate office, Carmel Pharma, Inc., in Columbus, OH. PhaSeal has been in use in the United States since 2000 and implemented in more than 1000 cancer facilities, infusion centers and private practices, including M.D. Anderson and Texas Children’s in Houston, TX; City of Hope in Duarte, CA; Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA; SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford, IL; and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, just to name a few.
