Artezio Starts a New Phase of Developing a Transportation Management System for Pepsi Bottling Group Russia

Artezio finishes phase three of developing a transportation management software system for Pepsi Bottling Group Russia and moves into phase four. Operations planning and transportation management solutions have been implemented. The next goal is to implement a solution for intermodal transit facilities.

Moscow, Russia, October 21, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Pepsi Bottling Group Russia operates in all regions across the Russian Federation, which makes operations planning and logistics management very challenging. They decided to automate operations planning and logistics management at the regional level.

Pepsi Bottling Group Russia set quite a large task. The requirements were expected to evolve with company growth and expansion. None of the off the shelf solutions readily met these expectations. Artezio proposed to develop a custom transportation management system from the grounds up, so that to satisfy all customer’s requirements. Together with Pepsi Bottling Group Russia a decision about phase-by-phase system development was made and a strategic product development plan going forward for several years was proposed. Work on the project started in the middle of 2008. So far the first three phases of the project have been completed.

The first phase was supposed to support a single pilot region. At this level the system included user management, privilege management, and customer order management. Testing this system in a production environment demonstrated its advantages and motivated the client to continue cooperation with Artezio. The next two phases of the project have built up on functionality implemented during the first phase. New features include planning of vehicle hire by trucking company, keeping track of delivery routes and freight terminals, and generating additional reports. Privilege management functionality has been enhanced. The system has been scaled up to the nationwide level to cover the entire territory of the Russian Federation.

During the first three phases of system implementation, volumes of data have increased, operations have been split into regional and nationwide levels, and new types of freight deliveries have been added. These changes in business logic make up the goals that Artezio analysts and software engineers must achieve in phase four of the project.

Phase four estimated duration is three months. After phase four completion, Artezio will create a full-blown transportation management system that manages delivery of goods from manufacturing facilities to distribution centers and to distributor’s warehouses. The main goals of phase four include coordination of logistics department work flow and efficient management of freight deliveries. The system will make it possible to better manage transportation rates and trucking companies. Many operations will be carried out in an automated mode, making it easier for logistics specialists to work productively. Also Artezio has been tasked to handle intermodal transfer facilities during this phase. Such a task is rather challenging from the technical standpoint. It will require Artezio developers to demonstrate their advanced technical skills. Designed to use the LAMP solution stack, the system will provide services to dispatchers, warehouse technicians, Pepsi Bottling Group Russia analysts, and transportation services companies.

It is worth to note that cooperation between Pepsi Bottling Group Russia and Artezio will continue beyond phase four. Several enhancements to the system are being currently considered including integration with the warehouse management system and a carrier assignment module.

“Cooperation with Artezio in developing and deploying our transportation management system has been a positive experience all the way through the project. Staying in close contact with Artezio we created a unique software product that is precisely tailored for the Logistics department of Pepsi Bottling Group Russia and satisfies all our requirements. We are happy with the result of our cooperation with Artezio and plan to continue it in future”, comments Natalya Nikitina, logistics manager Pepsi Bottling Group Russia.
