Grizzlies’ Dahntay Jones to Host 2nd Annual Chick Fila Day

Memphis, TN, December 15, 2006 --(PR.com)-- On Thursday, December 14th at 3:30 pm, Memphis Grizzlies’ Dahntay Jones will join forces with the Memphis Police Department’s Co-Act program for the 2nd Annual Chick Fil A Day at Chick Fil A located at 7072 Winchester Road.

This event provides Jones with an opportunity to meet with area teens and stress the importance of education and how it can lead to a successful future. Jones, who successfully balanced basketball and his studies throughout high school and at Duke, understands the challenges that many youth face. He plans to participate in many of these “mentoring” sessions with youth in Memphis and in his hometown of Trenton, New Jersey.

Jones founded the Dahntay Jones Foundation in November 2005 to improve the overall quality of life for troubled and underprivileged children by assisting them in their dreams of a higher education. To date, the Foundation has replaced the textbooks at Greenwood Elementary School, provides tickets for kids at Grizzlies home games, hosts free basketball clinics, and donated $20,000 to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. In addition, the Foundation will award two of its inaugural scholarships to deserving students wishing to attend the University of Memphis.

“Basketball has given me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of today’s youth. There are lots of obstacles kids have to deal with and I have made it my mission to help them win.” Jones further states, “I know they may look up to me because I play professional basketball, and since I have their attention, I am using the opportunity to pass on a little wisdom.”

Jones partnered with the Memphis Police Department’s Co Act program, which is a strategic, community based, anti-violence initiative. The program’s goal is to enhance the thinking ability of the neighborhood children, as well as promote positive behavior among at-risk children, and as a result, produce better students that are eager to advance their education rather than participate in criminal activity.
