Replacement Floor for the Sacred Heart Church in Wimbledon Using FlexiDry Fast Drying Screed

Work to replace the sunken floor at the Sacred Heart Church commenced in April this year with a total of almost a million pounds being spent on the church renovation.

High Wycombe, United Kingdom, September 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Hidden away between houses on a side street near Wimbledon Village this Catholic Church is the size of a cathedral yet its positioning suggests it should be a chapel. The church opened in 1887 after being funded by a local resident who loved the area so much she wanted it to have its own Gothic style monument.

FlexiDry F1 (7 day dry time) floor screed has been installed this month on a UFH system for main contractor Killby & Gayford as the work nears the completion date scheduled for November enabling the church to get back to full use ready for their Christmas celebrations.

The benches were the first thing to be removed from the church and taken away for refurbishment followed by the organ which was dismantled and removed for restoration before work started on the church floor. To ensure the new floor cannot settle in the same way as the old floor it is supported on a total of 30 piles each designed to carry a load of 20 tons.

Once the piles had been installed, the old floor was removed and it was replaced with a new reinforced concrete slab. The FlexiDry fast drying floor screed was laid on the underfloor heating pipes which in turn were laid on insulation on the slab and after 7 days the screed was dry ready for the new wood block floor to be laid.

The new underfloor heating system will be the principal means of heating the church but there will is also radiators around the outside walls to allow for the coldest winter weather.
