Genscape Expands European Real-Time Power Data Coverage with New Services

New infrared (IR) and wind services broaden Genscape's European offering

Amsterdam, Netherlands, November 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Genscape, the leading global provider of energy fundamentals information for commodity and financial markets, today announced the expansion of its real-time power data coverage in the Netherlands and Belgium. With the introduction of new infrared (IR) and wind services, the company demonstrates its ongoing commitment to delivering market transparency and responding to client needs.

The expanded Netherlands coverage to more than 17 GW in capacity includes 2118 MW from Intergen’s Rijnmond and MaasStroom plants and Electrabel’s Maxima-centrale, three of the most modern and efficient gas-fired plants in Europe. Previously unable to monitor these and other urban plants with traditional monitoring technologies, Genscape introduces its innovative IR service to capture plant stack thermal images which are analyzed every five minutes to update plant operating status and output.

Genscape also significantly extends its real-time wind generation data coverage beyond Germany to now include 2.2 GW in the Netherlands and 600 MW in Belgium. Genscape’s wind generation data is aggregated from current calculations of output from each individual turbine and is designed to be the most accurate source of real-time and historical wind generation for traders, dispatchers and analysts. As new on and offshore resources are built and existing farms are expanded so too will Genscape’s coverage.

“As wind generation capacity grows so does its impact on price volatility throughout the European power markets,” said Hudson Gilmer, VP of power products at Genscape. “Traders without timely, accurate wind data will be missing an increasingly critical piece of data in their analyses.

With the addition of its new IR and wind services, Genscape now offers European clients real-time power data covering 86% and 63% of total generating capacity in the Netherlands and Belgium, respectively, and 98% of plants above 500 MW output across both regions.
