The SADS Foundation Commends the Salt Lake International Airport for Getting IAED Accreditation

Salt Lake City, UT, January 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The SADS (Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes) Foundation, founded in 1991 in Salt Lake City, UT, commends the Salt Lake International Airport on this prestigious accreditation. Quick response in the case of sudden cardiac arrest, especially with the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator), can save the lives of people who are affected by heart arrhythmia conditions. The SADS Foundation encourages all individuals to learn and use CPR and AEDs.

The Salt Lake City International Airport is the First to Receive IAED Accreditation

The Salt Lake City International Airport is the first airport to receive accreditation as an Emergency Medical Dispatch Center of Excellence by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED).

The Airport is the 142nd dispatch center in the world to be awarded this distinction for its comprehensive implementation and compliance with the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) and associated “20 Points of Excellence”.

The MPDS is the world’s most widely used 911-type pre-arrival instruction and dispatch life support protocol system. Accreditation demands careful MPDS compliance and certification for all emergency call-takers and medical dispatchers. It also requires system oversight, medical control and quality improvement programs.

Earning this accreditation involves completing a detailed self-study and analysis and indicates that the Airport is compliant with international practice standards for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD).

The Airport’s Control Center handles emergency calls for South Valley Regional Airport and Tooele Valley Airport as well as Salt Lake City International Airport. Annually, the Center handles over 1,000 medical emergency calls.

“The Airport Control Center team took on the challenge of obtaining this accreditation as a commitment to its customers and the medical teams we work with,” comments Lisa Julio, Communications Support Manager.

Maureen Riley, Executive Director of the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, notes, “We are extremely proud of this accomplishment and of the twenty Control Center employees who voluntarily took on this project and demonstrated their professionalism in this extraordinary manner.”
