The Supermarket Online Celebrates One Year of Trading

Starting an office supplies company is not easy - as the office supplies supermarket have found during their first year trading.

London, United Kingdom, April 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Supermarket Online, (part of the superstat group) celebrates the end of its first trading year this week. It was a difficult first year for the young company – the office supplies industry is a heavily competitive one. The company’s growth has been constant but slow throughout the last year. The company started off enthusiastically enough and aimed to be at the top of Google and making millions within the year. Sadly, the realities were very different. The infrastructure was solid enough – superstat (the office supplies company’s parent company) sells millions of pounds worth of stationery each year. But selling to dealers and selling to the public are two very different things, as the young company soon found out. The findings made during their first year trading are now starting to pay dividends.

A lot of the hard work has been done in laying a foundation over the last 12 months. The company now has 10 websites, but is focusing their activity on www.theofficesuppliessupermarket.com/.

In January, the company took on Martin Fairall as the new head of marketing. Martin has a strong track record in online marketing with over 15 years experience. Coming from an agency background he has worked with a range of clients including JJB sports, TD Waterhouse and AVIVA.

The end of the first trading year has been fantastic for the new company, with an 80% increase in sales between December to January, and February is already on target to be the company’s best month ever. Martin was quoted in January as saying, “It’s been a good first month for me and we have made some real, measurable improvements to our marketing activities. There are a lot of areas that are going well but many are open for improvement. For each change that has been implemented there has been a suggestion made for two more. New opportunities are presenting themselves every day and we are prioritising our activities to ensure that we get the 'Big Wins' done first. I’m confident that we have a strong base to work from and that next month will see continued improvements to the already improving figures.”
