Postcode Anywhere Reaches National Business Awards 2011 Finals

Software and services company among “Britain’s most innovative and sustainable businesses.”

Worcester, United Kingdom, August 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Postcode Anywhere, the Worcester-based software company best-known for the “what’s your postcode?” technology found in many ecommerce websites, announces today it has reached the finals of the National Business Awards. It joins over 150 of “Britain’s most innovative and sustainable public and private sector businesses,” according to the Awards judges.

As one of only 10 businesses which have been shortlisted in the Transformational Change of the Year category to identify companies which have improved their operational efficiency through strategic re-alignment, Postcode Anywhere finds itself alongside finalists such as Business Stream, Delmergate Ltd, London Early Years Foundation, RCUK Shared Services Centre, RESPONSE, ServicePower Technologies Plc., Ten Group, Trustmarque Solutions, and Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

The combined turnover of all finalists this year is £96bn. If the National Business Awards finalist organisations were a country, its combined GDP would place it among the top 50 worldwide - just behind Romania, ahead of New Zealand, and almost three times that of Luxembourg.

Postcode Anywhere’s managing director Guy Mucklow said: “One of the key challenges for many SMEs, particularly those that go through rapid growth, is to maintain focus on their core competencies and values. It’s easy to get distracted by the multitude of opportunities out there, and end up doing lots of things reasonably well, rather than a few things exceptionally well.

“Over the last 12 months we have refocused our business and changed our internal organisation, creating smaller, more product-centric teams, with a broader set of skills and a much better understanding of customer needs. This has in turn helped to strengthen the business and, I believe, to create a far more motivated workforce. Being shortlisted as a finalist for the National Business Awards Transformational Change category is an achievement that all of our employees can feel proud of.”

Martin Stiven, Vice President of Business at National Business Awards partner Orange, part of Everything Everywhere, said: “The National Business Awards, now in their tenth year, embody the core principles of business excellence, innovation and ethics, all of which are central to Orange’s company values.

“Reaching the finals of the National Business Awards is no mean feat and I am delighted that the calibre of entrants keeps on improving. All finalists have demonstrated exceptional drive, resilience and innovation during challenging economic conditions. Many congratulations to all finalists and best of luck with the next stage of the competition. I very much look forward to the live judging in September and October.”

Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone, Chair of Judges, the National Business Awards, said: “The economic climate continues to present UK businesses with an unprecedented challenge: it is therefore particularly encouraging that the entries in this year’s National Business Awards have shown no drop in quality or performance.

“Congratulations to all finalists for demonstrating tremendous strength in their ability to adapt and innovate, which no doubt reflects the resilience and optimism that are the hallmarks of UK enterprise.”

Finalists will now prepare to make their presentations in person before an independent, expert judging panel in September and October at the offices of Coutts & Co at 30 St Mary Axe.

The judges are:

• Mr Colin Cram, Director, Marc1 Ltd
• Ms Jackie Keeley Director, Harthill
• Mr Phil Smith, CEO, Cisco Systems Limited
• Mr Charles Ward, Chief Operating Officer, Intellect

Organised by UBM Plc., winners will be honoured at the National Business Awards gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on Tuesday 8 November. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne will deliver this year’s welcome address. Visit www.nationalbusinessawards.co.uk for a full list of all 2011 finalists.
