The Chef’s Academy’s Triangle Chef Showdown Raises 86,000 Meals for Food Bank

Culinary Institution Celebrates Grand Opening Event with More Than 400 Attendees.

Raleigh, NC, October 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Chef’s Academy (http://www.thechefsacademy.com), the Culinary Division of Harrison College, a 108-year-old, nationally accredited institution that offers 38 degree programs in five schools of study, celebrated the grand opening of the school’s North Carolina division on Sept. 29 with more than 400 guests in attendance. In conjunction with September’s Hunger Action Month, a national movement of the food bank networks to end domestic hunger, the event hosted a Triangle Chef Showdown which raised funds and awareness of local hunger through the donation of 85,902 meals. All proceeds received were donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

The Triangle Chef Showdown featured local culinary experts including Chef Walter Royal of Angus Barn, Chef Solomon Khoury of Irregardless Café, Chef Michael Chuong of án Restaurant and Chef Scott Crawford of The Umstead Hotel and Spa. Each Chef prepared mouthwatering dishes which were sampled and voted on by guests through the donation of money or canned-food items. The competition concluded with Chef Michael Chuong being recognized as the winner of the Triangle Chef Showdown.
