GC Media: World AIDS Day Rower Checks-in at LA Sports Club on Manhattan's Upper East Side

In preparation for XIX International AIDS Conference - Rowing with the Tide event, Victor Mooney gets a three-day pass to workout.

New York, NY, March 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Early this morning, Victor Mooney took the F train to Lexington Avenue. Not for a latte or bagel, but to find a club that can aide his training before the custom made ocean rowboat arrives from Sao Paulo, Brazil in June. Last week, the International AIDS Society (IAS) informed Mooney that his solo six-hundred mile coastal row from New York City to Washington, DC will be an affiliated independent event for the XIX International AIDS Conference.

The theme of AIDS 2012, Turning the Tide Together, has been selected to emphasize how a global and decisive commitment is crucial to change the course of the epidemic now that science is presenting promising results in HIV treatment in HIV and biomedical prevention. The International AIDS Conference is scheduled from July 22-27 in the nation's capital - Washington, D.C. This the largest gathering of professionals working in the field of HIV, including people living with HIV and other leaders in the HIV response and a first for the United States.

During the coastal row, high profile ceremonial stops will be made in New York City, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Delaware, Annapolis and Washington, D.C. to mark “Rowing with the Tide Day”. Awards will be presented for those that have exemplified great corporate social responsibility in the fight against AIDS.

Mooney's wife, who doubles as his nutritionist has also been invited for a complimentary three day pass at the LA Sports Club On Manhattan's Upper East Side. On World AIDS Day, Mooney will make his fourth attempt to row three-thousand miles from the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa to New York City in this boat. Mooney hopes his mission will encourage voluntary HIV testing. He has lost one brother to AIDS and has another battling the disease. "We have more than 100,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in the New York metropolitan area and many more don't even know their HIV status," Victor Mooney said at his Forest Hills home.

"You are an inspiration," said Susie Smith, Membership Director at The Sports Club/LA - Manhattan's Upper East Side. For more visit goreechallenge.com.
