New Enterprise Exchange (NEXT) Challenge (Season 1) – Closing Ceremony

NEXT Challenge Season 1 comes to a close with a night of Celebration and Recognition for the NEXT Best Trader and NEXT Best Managed Team.

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, May 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- MoneyTree organized the New Enterprise Exchange (NEXT) Challenge (Season 1) Closing Ceremony on 30th April 2012 (Monday) at the TGV Sunway Pyramid Function Hall. Among the highlights of the event were the NEXT Forum (featuring panelists consisting of Corporate Leaders and industry Experts), Mock Cheque Presentation to NEXT Winners as well as the Première Screening of the movie "Marvel's The Avengers".

NEXT Season 1 successfully reached out to 5,000 undergraduates in more than 12 universities and recorded more than 18,000 registrations in 4 months. In NEXT 1, 25 teams representing 25 "companies" were shortlisted and listed on the NEXT Stock Exchange. More than 1,200 students traded the shares of these listed “companies”. The 2-month long challenge concluded with Team LIKY-G from Sunway University emerging as NEXT Best Managed Company and Ong Ming Kiat winning the title of NEXT Best Trader. The winners won themselves cash prize of RM60,000 and RM35,000 respectively.

Another main event for the night was The NEXT Forum where industry experts and captains of industry shared their experience and views on the topic "Entrepreneurship & Investments - A Choice or Necessity for Undergraduates?" This was in line with the findings of a 2011 survey where 88% of young people said that entrepreneurship education is vitally important, given the new economy; and yet 74% of all undergraduates had no access to either entrepreneurship or investments on campus. Among the invited panelists were Mr Ahmad Zakie Bin Hj. Ahmad Shariff (CEO of Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (FIMM)), Mr Mohamed Ariff (Head of Retail Channels, Equities of Maybank Investment Bank) and Mr Christopher Leong (Head of Ideas Bank, Cradle Fund).

CEO of MoneyTree Asia Pacific, Mr Michael Reyes stated, “We have always tried to see how far we can push the envelope and offer Malaysian undergraduates a hands-on feel on the markets – from an investor or startup entrepreneur standpoint. NEXT is the first of our initiatives.”

Other corporate partners who attended the NEXT Season 1 Closing Ceremony were representatives from OSK Investment Bank, ACCA, e-pay, MOE and Maybank.

After the NEXT forum, Invited guests and participants of NEXT 1 were treated to a movie screening “Marvel’s The Avengers”.
