Barnhill & Vaynerov, LLP Sues to Preserve Physician's Right to Deliver Necessary and Acclaimed Care

Los Angeles, CA, July 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Barnhill & Vaynerov LLP has commenced a legal action on behalf of Dr. Greggory R. DeVore, M.D. against Regal Medical Group, Inc., Lakeside Medical Group, Inc., Eastland Medical Group, Inc., and Community Medical Group of the West Valley, Inc., each of which is a member of the Heritage Provider Network. Heritage, a California Knox-Keen Health Care Service Plan, is the parent company of Regal, Lakeside, Eastland and Community. DeVore v. Heritage, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC484067.

Dr. DeVore is a renowned fetal & maternal medicine specialist, whose work with pregnant women detects life-threatening and high-risk conditions prior to delivery of the baby. Dr. DeVore's work is recognized as avoiding stillbirths, birth defects, and other dangerous complications. For years, Dr. DeVore has delivered this unique care to patients of the Heritage Provider Network until the network terminated his agreements without explanation. Dr. DeVore alleges that the Network terminated his contractual right to deliver this necessary and acclaimed care for improper economic reasons.

The termination of Dr. DeVore's participation in the Heritage network prevents Dr. DeVore from continuing or initiating care for Heritage patients, thereby potentially risking quality of care and access to treatment. Because Dr. DeVore earned and enjoys staff privileges at eight area hospitals where pregnant women will deliver, Heritage patients could be forced to forego critical necessary services at these facilities when Dr. DeVore is the only available provider.

To protect patient access to these necessary services, Dr. DeVore has sued the Network and its affiliates. His lawsuit alleges that the Network and its affiliates improperly terminated Dr. DeVore's contracts for unlawful and improper reasons, including the economic credentialing of Dr. DeVore's medical practice. Dr. DeVore also alleges that the terminations are contrary to longstanding public policy, and alleges claims of intentional interference with contract; unlawful, unfair and fraudulent business practices in violation of California Business & Professions Code §17200, et seq.; and a violation of Dr. DeVore's rights of due process.
