Spa Industry Unites to Help Those In Need

Union City, NJ, June 30, 2007 --(PR.com)-- SpaCare, Charitable Organized Giving announced today that its Hearts for a Cure Cruise will take place September 9th, 2007, immediately following the Spa and Resort/Medical Spa Expo and Conference, aboard the SS Temptress in New York, NY.

Jointly supported by the Day Spa Association and the International Medical Spa Association, SpaCare, Charitable Organized Giving, was developed to organize and manage industry-wide participation in community and national charitable activities and to promote the industry’s concern and partnership with organizations resolved to reduce the impact of social, health and educational issues. The Hearts for a Cure Cruise is SpaCare’s third charitable event and it keeps getting bigger and better each time. DSA Charity & Events Committee Chair and VP Spa Care, Monique Iacobacci is proud of how SpaCare, Charitable Organized Giving “was created by the spa industry for the spa industry and is making its debut at the fastest growing on-going charitable organization and event in the Day Spa Industry.” She continues, “This is a nationwide effort culminating with events in both New York and Las Vegas every year.”

Hannelore Leavy, the Executive Director of the Day Spa / International Medical Spa Association, notes “Many realized the need to pull the industry together in order to amplify its efforts and provide a more concerted, streamlined effort to those in need.” Leavy had been a long time supporter of the Melanoma Research Foundation, which seemed only natural as professionals in the beauty / spa industry are often the first to discover any abnormal skin growth. With a captive audience of professionals who wanted to learn more about what to look for and how to advise their clients to seek out doctors, Leavy and the Day Spa / International Medical Spa Associations joined forces with the Melanoma Research Foundation to bring education to the industry.

It became apparent to Leavy quite quickly that since beauty and spa professionals join the industry because of their interest in the health and well-being of people, melanoma wasn’t the only cause the industry wanted to support. Most spa professionals donate their time, their money, or both to all sorts of causes from melanoma research to a myriad of diseases to local and national events and more. When calls started pouring into the DSA about helping people in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Leavy knew she had to do more to organize the charitable giving efforts of the industry so that both the time and money spent would count in ways that really matter. Thus, SpaCare, Charitable Organized Giving was born.

While SpaCare, Organized Charitable Giving supports the Melanoma Research Foundation, it also supports other charities and helps spas who try to host their own fundraising events. Spas using SpaCare, Charitable Organized Giving’s guidelines in their own charitable events will be able to save and help lives for those experiencing illness / disease, acts of nature, war, and other catastrophes with both timely information and access to helping those in need.

While cruising the Hudson River, the Hearts for the Cure Cruise will host spa industry professionals as well as interested spa-goers in a night of fine dining, dancing, and lots of fun for a worthy cause. The highlight of the evening will be when SpaCare announces the recipients of the Healing Hearts award and the Spa Philanthropist of the Year award, rewarding those in the industry who have dedicated so much of their effort to helping others. SpaCare, Charitable Organized Giving is calling for cash donations, volunteers, and sponsors for our raffle and goodie bags. If you want to participate in this worthy cause, call Monique Iacobacci at (973)800-9247.
