Transaction Publishers Appoints a New American Presidents Series Editor

Piscataway, NJ, November 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Transaction Publishers, a major independent publisher of social science books, announces the appointment of Professor Thomas S. Langston as the new editor of the American Presidents book series. Prof. Langston plans to expand the series with a forthcoming edition expected for publication in fall/winter 2013.

The American Presidents series illuminates the historical and contemporary presidency by publishing creative scholarly monographs that bring to bear on the presidency the perspectives of political science, history, and biography. Books in the series reveal new insights into the office of the presidency and the lives of particular presidents, the overlooked as well as the most famous. The series explores the office from a variety of theoretical and methodological vantage points. Whatever approach they take, all books in the series address questions of enduring significance about the nature, meaning, and consequences of the exercise of executive power.

Thomas Langston is chair of political science at Tulane University and also serves as feature editor of “The Historical Presidency” in Presidential Studies Quarterly. Published widely on the American presidency, civil-military relations, and American political development, he is author of The Cold War Presidency: A Documentary History; Uneasy Balance: Civil-Military Relations in Peacetime America since 1783; George Washington; Lyndon Baines Johnson; With Reverence and Contempt: How Americans Think About Their President; and Ideologues and Presidents: From the New Deal to the Reagan Revolution.

“Politics and policy are core areas of strength for Transaction, and we are excited to have such a distinguished scholar and author join our team," said Mary E. Curtis, President of Transaction Publishers. "This will enable us to enhance our offerings with new and vital research. The American Presidents series is one of many series that we publish as part of our mission to produce scholarly and professional inquiries into the nature of society.”
