Eagles Receiver Plays Big Brother to Philly Youth

Philadelphia, PA, December 07, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Eagles receiver Darnerien McCants will play big brother to 100 kids at the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Annual Holiday party on Saturday December 10th from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. The festivities will take place at the River Rink at Penns Landing on Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia.

For 90 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has improved the lives of children in the community by matching youth in a one-to-one relationship with a caring adult volunteer. In 2005 they will serve approximately 2,500 children in Philadelphia, Delaware, and Chester counties.

In the century since BBBS mentoring began, the organization has helped thousands and thousands of children by matching them with a Big Brother or a Big Sister. The time that these Bigs spend with a child — reading books, playing games, eating ice cream — may not seem like much... but independent research confirms that these little moments can make a profound difference in the life of a child.

McCants, who is a huge advocate for children’s causes, is very excited about partnering with the program. “I am a big kid myself, so I truly enjoy hanging out with kids. When I heard it was a skating party, I said sign me up!” McCants further states “I’ve always felt like I was put here to serve a purpose, and although I’m still not sure exactly what that purpose is, I know it will have something to do with helping kids.”

The busy receiver is also hosting a coat drive for the Salvation Army on December 13, 2005 at Sneaker Villa located at 1231 North Broad Street in Philadelphia.
