Developers Call Microsoft Most Relevant Tech Company Today, Google Most Likely to Dominate in Three Years

Santa Cruz, CA, February 15, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Microsoft is the most relevant tech company today, but Google is the most likely to dominate the industry in the future, according to a new survey of over 450 software developers conducted last month. As part of its 2013 Developer Marketing Survey, Evans Data measured developers’ perceptions of twenty of the top companies in the industry on stability, relevancy, growth potential, trustworthiness, and other intangibles.

Microsoft was selected by just over two-thirds for top relevancy overall - with a whopping 90% of developers aged 46 to 50 citing Microsoft. Google was second. On the other hand, Google trumped the other 19 companies for Most Likely to Dominate in three years, but Google’s appeal was most evident among young developers with 72% of those aged 25 and under selecting Google. In this category Microsoft was second.

"The developer landscape is shifting as developer demographics change,” said Janel Garvin, CEO of Evans Data Corp. "The age of software developers in North America has been trending younger since 2009, and as a new generation of developers comes on stage they bring new perceptions of the industry and its leaders."

Intel was the third choice out of the twenty both in relevancy and likelihood of dominance.

The Developer Marketing Survey is an annual survey now in its fifteenth year, which examines tactical marketing methods and developers’ opinions, attitudes and perceptions. It examines developer demographics, psychographics, industry perceptions, contests and website gamification, influencers, outreach methods, social media, trade shows, search engine marketing and more.
