)-- Anaphora Literary Press is excited to promote Dr. Garry McGiboney’s The Private Side of a Public Education. Finally, someone on the inside is willing and able to share what makes public education one of the most wasteful, harmful, and yet noble efforts in the history of mankind. This book pulls back the curtain on an unedited and uncensored view of public education, including components heretofore unheard of by the general public. Garry McGiboney takes the reader into the world of felonious students and staff members and how their presence in school poses real dangers for all students, chronicling how, while some teachers and administrators save souls, others are permitted to be cruel. The author also shares his own comical viewpoint of a personal journey, with heart-wrenching descriptions of students trying to retain their dignity while struggling to survive in public schools. While recent books such as Waiting for Superman and The Death and Life of the Great American School System fail to capture the heart and soul of public education in America, The Private Side of Public Education will forever change its readers’ perception.
Garry McGiboney, Ph.D. has experience in public education that spans 37 years, having worked at elementary, middle, high, and alternative schools as well as most recently at the state level. Himself a former struggling student and award-winning educator, Dr. McGiboney became an advocate for children in the public school system and has conducted hundreds of state and national training sessions in areas related to public education. He has been quoted several times in such print media as Time Magazine, Education Week, and USA Today, as well as international media publications Le Devoir, Listin Diario, El Diaro, Japan Press, and Mato Grosso. He has appeared on CNN, Nickelodeon Network, A&E, Discovery Channel, PBS, and a United States Department of Education televised program on emergency preparedness in schools, and has been interviewed on several local news affiliates of ABC, NBC, and Fox News. Dr. McGiboney has over 30 published articles in journals such as in the American School Boards Journal on a variety of topics in public education, and has received local and national awards for his work in public education and children’s advocacy, most notably the National Association of School Psychologists Friend of Children Award.
