Silver Spring, MD, June 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- In the Washington Metropolitan Area (affectionately also known as the DMV), unemployment rates are hovering between 3.5 and 7.6 percent which have caused extreme hardships for many of the local residents. For recent graduates and those under 25 years of age, Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that their unemployment is twice the national average. Many local job seekers have not been able to secure a job in their career that they actually like or that otherwise connect to their formal education and experience. As we recover from this recession, “any job” has become the new “good job,” especially for people with little experience in their field of choice.

Ebony Tara Scurry, The Career Architect™ has actively supported Washington Metropolitan Area residents in their search for meaningful employment with a salary they can be proud of since 2005. A certified professional in human resources (PHR), certified global career development facilitator instructor (GCDF-I), and certified career management coach (CCMC) with a Bachelors in Sociology and Masters in Organizational Development & Strategic Human Resources, Ebony has helped hundreds of locals enjoy their careers. An expert in helping people flourish after painful career set-backs such as terminations and layoffs, she helps others implement strategic action plans to negotiate better benefits and salary through her private practice based in Silver Spring, Maryland.

On July 18th 11:00am, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring (UUCSS), Ebony Tara Scurry will speak about and take questions on exploring and nurturing one’s dreams, crafting cover letters and resumes that get results, and finding & applying to jobs that align with one’s passion and salary goals.

A DMV native, Ebony is most notably known for her unique niche in working with the complex cases of eccentric and often stereotyped groups such as Goths, Geeks, Freaks, the Transgendered, Non-native speakers of English, those with unconventional careers, and those with careers in the Black Market or Shadow Economy looking to secure legitimate employment. She’s definitely not your typical career coach. She’s spoken at conferences, sharing advanced techniques to career development professionals on how to work with these challenging, harder-to-help groups.

“I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve their destiny regardless of tattoos, piercings, native language, gender identity, and unconventional fashion choices and personal lifestyles. A lot of the people I help come to me thinking that in our current economic environment, there’s no room to be yourself and that the employer holds all of the cards. This is simply not the case! If you go into your job search reeking of fear and trying to be someone you’re not, no one will want to hire you. Or, if they do - you’ll likely to get trampled over and hurt pretty badly, like in The Running of the Bulls in Spain,” says Scurry.

In the “Careercraft for Resumes and Cover Letters: Escape Your Job & Live Your Passion” seminar, attendees will learn how to explore and nurture their passion, craft cover letters and resumes that save time and get them the results they want while finding & applying to jobs that align with their passion and salary goals.

Students and recent graduates are free with a student ID until July 1st. Regular tickets range between $135 and $175.50. Ebony is also seeking out non-profit organizations who have adult education programs or employment groups who serve those who would benefit from a reduced or free ticket to the information packed-action-oriented motivational seminar.

“Despite the current market conditions, there are other choices besides being unemployed or in a job you don’t like that doesn’t connect to your career goals,” says Ebony Tara Scurry. “I help people make more money and have more freedom with a career that matches their own definition of success. Before people can get out of the hole they’re in, they need to believe that it’s actually possible. A lot of people have lost faith. Some come to me out of sheer desperation. They’ve tried everything and this is literally their last stop before they lose their home or in some cases, their marriage or family. I love what I do, and I take it very seriously. These are people’s lives and futures I’m impacting. People are investing in my services with money that they may have been used to put food on their tables or put gas in their cars. I’m really honored that my DMV community trusts me to get them the best return on their investment as possible.”

Ebony Tara Scurry’s presentation will be held from 11:00am-3:00pm in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring, located at 10309 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20903. The program will be recorded, a photographer will be on site taking photos, and media may be present. For directions, visit http://www.uucss.org/contact/map.html
