Analytics Platform for Internet of Things Secures First US Partner, Appoints COO

Real-time Video Data Combines with Other Sensors for Enhanced Customer View; Five Years in Stealth Mode Prior to Commercial Launch

Melbourne, Australia, March 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Australian data analytics company SenSen Networks is targeting North America as its next growth market by opening a US office to support its first strategic partnership in the USA.

Experienced M&A and business development executive Ashok Margam has been hired as Chief Operating Officer after the company announced the successful completion of a recent capital- raising. He will be based in the US to spearhead the expansion drive in the US and Canada as well as Europe.

“SenSen’s analytics platform is tailor made for the intersection of Big Data and the Internet of Things. By adding a video front end to visually enhance other data, we uncover hidden value, reveal fresh insights and discover new patterns,” Margam said.

“SenSen was founded as a video analytics company with applications in defence, security and surveillance, all of which require a visual record for evidentiary as well as compliance reasons, and the company has spent more than 150 man-years building expertise in this field.

“Much of this was done by a small group of 30 researchers working deep under the radar from a small suburban office in Melbourne, Australia, and these humble beginnings have allowed the company to grow far away from the gaze of media and bystanders. Instead, SenSen has focused on attracting a blue-chip client list across Asia Pacific and stress-testing its products in real-life situations such as law enforcement, traffic infringement, consumer tracking and retail measurement.”

SenSen’s core skill is analyzing streams of sensor data in real time, recognizing all interesting events and creating accurate and structured metadata that lead to high-value business insights and operational applications.

According to Margam, who has a dual-stream MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Columbia Business School and serves as a mentor in Columbia University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship program, the company was simply too intriguing to ignore even as he was busy building his own start-up in Algorithmic Trading. He initially worked with SenSen in a strategic advisory role last year before accepting a full-time offer this time around.

“Decision makers need information as fast as possible from the ever-growing diversity of data sources, and riding on its superior strength in sensor analytics algorithms SenSen operates at the cusp of Big Data, sensor networks and business intelligence,” Margam said.

“There is a fantastic growth opportunity in North America and already we have signed a strategic alliance and license agreement with San Diego-based Cubic Transportation Systems.

“Cubic is a leading integrator of information technology and payment systems and services for intelligent travel solutions, and its vote of faith in SenSen played a large part in my decision to come aboard. This alliance partnership gives Cubic the ability to distribute SenSen’s products and solutions that align with Cubic’s NextCity vision and create new solutions for smart cities and international transportation systems globally.”

Cubic’s NextCity will enable transport operators to regulate demand and provide travellers with maximum choices, while SenSen is offering a powerful analytics engine with the aim of achieving shorter queues and fewer traffic jams. Together, the companies plan to deliver the following solutions to market:

1) Automatic gate line monitoring in train stations and transport hubs using video analytics and intelligent video to increase commuter flow, detect health and safety issues, and minimize fare evasion
2) Speed, safety and toll enforcement solutions for road authorities
3) Parking guidance and enforcement for city councils
4) People and vehicle traffic counting and classification for a variety of applications
5) Intelligent security for stations, rail infrastructure, airports and other critical infrastructure

Margam joins SenSen after 15 years of professional work spent in Software Engineering, Business Management, Mergers and Acquisitions and New Business Development roles incorporate and entrepreneurial settings.

SenSen’s analytics solution is designed and developed around a versatile, sophisticated platform capable of extracting events of interest by processing large volumes of unstructured video and other sensory data constantly streamed in real-time. The resulting operational and business insights are made available to enterprise applications via industry-standard Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Customer and market-focused business solution providers interact with these APIs to access the sensor analytics-generated data and deliver customer-specific business solutions.
