Avets Receives VECCS Certification as Level I Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Facility
Monroeville, PA, May 08, 2015 --( Avets (Allegheny Veterinary Emergency Trauma, and Specialty), a 24-hour referral veterinary hospital in Monroeville, PA, has earned a Level I veterinary emergency and critical care facility certification from the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS). Veterinary emergency facilities that have applied for certification are classified by VECCS as Level I, Level II or Level III, depending upon operating hours, equipment and personnel at individual facilities.

“Avets’ mission is to ‘provide state of the art medicine and compassionate care to pets and the people who love them’ and is honored to be one of the first 15 hospitals nationwide, and the only in western PA to be certified as a Level I facility,” says Dr. Sean Smarick, Hospital Director and Emergency and Critical Care Specialist.

In order to provide emergency and critical care to dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and small mammals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 day per year, a VECCS Level I emergency and critical care facility must be appropriately equipped and staffed with emergency and critical care specialists, emergency veterinarians, certified veterinary technicians and assistants who have met VECCS training standards.
