2b Acting Presents a New Play About Brexit and England

"For the love of oranges" - a new stage production for 2017 by 2b Acting, with support from Leeds City College.

Leeds, United Kingdom, September 20, 2017 --(PR.com)-- It should not come as a surprise that issues raised by Brexit have become a catalyst for creative expression. The new play from 2b Acting, a digital media and theatre company based in Yorkshire, is among the first to challenge audiences with a crafty weaved story encompassing the challenges Britain may face with the decision to leave the European Union.

Inspired by true historical events, the play, written and directed by David Jones, looks back at a time when trading agreements were secured through the union of Kings and Queens and their lineage. Is this where Britain is heading now alliances such as the European Union is no more?

Can Britain survive without this alliance? The play picks up on one key produce (oranges) that could only be obtained through European trade, without which Britain would never have become rulers of the sea, as once claimed.

“Audiences will be entertained by the play as it’s essentially a love story to tug at heart strings,” says David Jones, “However, the underlining message will be apparent, especially with parallels connecting the story with what’s happening in today’s world. For this reason, I am really looking forward to reactions.”

The company is developing the play with support from Leeds City College and students there will be the first to see the performance before the public viewing on 10 November at Seven Arts Leeds.

To further challenge audiences, the planned performances will use an Interactive Video App to provide information about the cast, the play and the issues. The idea is for the App to replace the traditional printed programme. The company is also asking the audience to use the App during the performance. It’s not many stage performances that ask you to keep your mobile on, so how this will work is an intriguing experiment.
