In a Land Defined by Ancient Ways, a Young Woman Named Nkechi Dares to Confront the Most Powerful Men in Her Community

Bukit-Mertajam, Malaysia, April 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Outskirts Press is pleased to announce the publication of Lioness of the Clan by Nigerian author Anthony Amaechi Isoh, whose previous works include Black Banana, published last year to great acclaim. In Lioness, young Nkechi, a single mother, struggles to fight the biased customs, traditions, and religious mores of a society where women have long been subservient to men.

If myth were to be believed, people born during an eclipse were bound to be eccentric. Yet Nkechi’s mother chose to look at the positive side, and interpreted her daughter’s birth during the eclipse of the sun to mean she would grow into a warrior.

However, the world that Nkechi was born into is one where women are expected to live as they have always lived, where education for a woman is viewed as a waste of time and money, and where her only role is to bear children and satisfy the whims of her husband.

But Nkechi’s strong-willed and passionate nature makes her yearn for more. When she discovers that there are other women in the world who work alongside men in all fields of human endeavor, she decides to find that for herself—a decision that ultimately leads her to take a stand as protector and defender of women, confronting the most powerful men of her clan. In her struggles, she uses all available strength to fight against hypocrisy of the church, the stigma associated with being a single mom in her society, and the biased customs and traditions that subordinate women to the whims of the men in their lives.

Lioness of the Clan is an extraordinary work of fiction that will engage readers as they embark on a motivating journey to witness one woman’s desire to end the unjust cultural traditions of her community and claim her own place in the world.
