Intelligent Leisure Solutions and the Discover Group Wins United Nations World Tourism Organization Ulysses Award for Innovation in Tourism Enterprises

Awards ceremony has been held on May 28th in Madrid, Spain.

Salvador, Brazil, June 06, 2008 --( As in previous years, the World Tourism Organization UNWTO has awarded the Ulysses Prize to projects with innovation in tourism during the Ulysses Conference. The event has taken place in Madrid, Spain, on May 28th and 29th under the title “Education and Knowledge Management: Meeting Future Challenges” with the presence of representatives of prestigious international organizations acting in the travel and tourism industry.

UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) - about the Ulysses Prize and Awards:

"The UNWTO Ulysses Prize and Awards are given in recognition for Innovation and Application of Knowledge in Tourism Governance (…) to projects (…) which merit distinction for their innovative contributions to tourism policy, governance, and other areas of tourism, such as the environment, new technologies, etc."

In 2008, the UNWTO Ulysses Awards for a project of a tourism enterprise for innovation in tourism has been given to Intelligent Leisure Solutions and Discover Travel Group. This completely web-based South and Central America Luxury Travel Company has been selected by the Ulysses Prize and Awards Committee together with the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization for using an inexpensive business model to improve and establish the image of South and Central America as luxury tourism destinations providing excellence in service, thereby fomenting demand for luxury travel in these developing areas and encouraging local development of high quality sustainable tourism activity.

The opening-up of this market of responsible tourism for these suppliers in remote areas causes economic development to progress, bringing social improvements. Furthermore, local communities start to regard the environment and local culture as sustainable source of income, which is an incentive for them to engage in its preservation.

Intelligent Leisure Solutions and Discover Travel Group applied an innovative approach using geotourism on the product side by providing local services to their clients, and on the marketing/distribution side by applying – the long tail theory – using the internet to distribute their product to the most remote regions of the globe.
