Bold Marketing Campaign Increases Patient Occupancy in Three Key Areas at St. Vincent's Medical Center

New York, NY, July 18, 2008 --( St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT is widely acclaimed within the medical community for its top-ranked quality of care, especially in the demanding field of cardiac treatment. But their story wasn’t being told effectively. To successfully compete with Yale New Haven and Bridgeport Hospitals, the two other major medical centers in its primary market, St. Vincent’s needed a marketing program that would build patient loyalty and keep its beds filled.

PM & CO developed a bold and engaging ad slogan that capitalizes on St. Vincent’s high rankings within its market area: “We’re #1 with patients, because patients are #1 with us.”

To promote the new campaign, PM & CO developed a three-prong approach. First, they designed a bright, appealing new look and feel, combining high-tech with high-touch, for St. Vincent’s marketing materials and carried it through a wide range of vehicles including the hospital’s quarterly news magazine and a series of print ads targeted specifically for key market segments. PM & CO then designed a hard-hitting awareness brochure and multimedia presentation to help St. Vincent’s communicate the hospital’s many achievements and leadership stature in its PR and outreach, fund-raising and doctor recruitment efforts. PM & CO also developed a TV ad campaign which focuses on St. Vincent’s dominant market position in the areas of cardiac care, joint replacement and stroke.

The new branding and marketing program has led to increases in patient census, and patients prefer St. Vincent’s over other major hospitals in their highly competitive market area. Specifically, St. Vincent’s has seen a 9% increase in medical and surgical patients and a 9% increase in noninvasive cardiac procedures. Antenatal procedures for mothers and babies are also up 8%.
