The Paintings of Internationally Acclaimed Spanish Master Guillermo Sedano Come to New Jersey
Summit, NJ, July 22, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The paintings of internationally acclaimed Spanish Master Painter Guillermo Sedano have come to Summit, New Jersey. Sedano has been hailed as one of Europe’s young master painters, winning the 22nd Annual BMW Prize in Madrid. This award is given annually in a competition among the best young painters of Europe. The award—similar to a Nobel prize, but given in painting—bears a purse of 35,000 Euros, and is awarded by Queen Sofia of Spain. Sedano won the award for his painting “Nevada” (“Snow”).

In the stated group opinion of the judges (art luminaries drawn from across Europe): “Nevada is a winter landscape, with a realist basis and impressionist touch which represents the effect of a snowfall. The whites and grays contrast with the copper-colored rocks on a rusty, scrap metal base, in perfect harmony, creating an atmosphere that is crystal-clear and clean.”

Guillermo Sedano was born in 1976 in Medina de Pomar, Burgos, where he still lives and works. He received his academic training at Spain’s prestigious University of Salamanca. Sedano is an emerging master of both urban and natural landscapes, and has a resume filled with prestigious prizes for his work.

Sedano’s work has evolved into a luminous realism, infused by the grays, greens and blues of the region near Bilbao. His work combines expert technical painting, superb compositional skill and a mastery of subtle shading of color. His work has been compared to the prime years of Sargent and to any number of Impressionists. Sedano works in a style of his own making, combining academic training in historic techniques with his mastery of color. He has been exhibited throughout Spain, and his work is held in private collections throughout Europe.

Cosmopolitan Fine Art, located at 37 Maple Street in downtown Summit, New Jersey will be showing the paintings of this artist beginning on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Two of the paintings feature highway snow scenes very similar to the painting that was awarded the BMW Prize. The others in the collection are of various urban and rural landscapes. One of the pieces “Guggenheim Museum Bilbao” gives the appearance of a child’s painting when viewed from up close. However, move about six feet away and the look of the painting is transformed into a hyper-realistic photograph.
