Help Bring Veteran Voices to the Stage on Veterans Day
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, FL, November 05, 2026 --(PR.com)-- The Seaside Players Community Theater will present a play reading on Veterans Day of several short plays - all written by veterans from around the country. To raise funds for the event, it created a Zeffy account.

The Seaside Players are a non-profit community theater and 501(c)3 in Lauderale-By-The-Sea.

The veterans' scripts not only reflect their unique perspectives on military service (soldiers returning home and post-traumatic stress disorder), but on humor, friendship and marriage. One play depicts a ghostly Civil War skirmish.

The plays were written by veterans who take part in a Theatre for Veterans playwriting workshop run by Propel New Works, a non-profit organization specializing in the development of literary works and headquartered near Indianapolis.

“When talented veterans bring their stories to the stage, the public gains a unique and profound perspective that cannot be fully experienced through headlines or books alone,” said Angeline Larimer, the executive director at Propel New Works. “Live performance allows audiences to engage emotionally, fostering empathy for the challenges of military service.”

The plays will be read four times next week. In addition to Veterans Day at 7PM, there are shows at 7PM on Friday (Nov. 13), and at 4PM on Saturday and Sunday. All the shows are in Jarvis Hall, 4505 N. Ocean Blvd., Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

A staged reading is a performance where actors read from scripts, bringing their characters to life with limited movement, and without any formal sets, costumes or props.

Veterans and a guest can attend for free. Tickets are $10. Proceeds benefit American Legion Post 142 in Pompano Beach. The production was funded in part by a grant from the Broward County Cultural Division.
