Who: Honoring Thomas P. O’Neill III, former Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor, CEO of O’Neill and Associates and supporter of the Irish community; Maureen & John Connolly, owners of the Aisling Galleryin Hingham, Mass., and generous patrons of Irish arts Neil Hurley, dedicated volunteer helping Irish and others new to the U.S. through many social and charitable Boston Irish organizations, including the Irish Immigration Center, the Irish Pastoral Center, the Abbott Celtic F.C. and other organizations.

Why: Since its foundation in 1737, the historic mission of the Charitable Irish Society of Boston has been to assist newly arrived Irish immigrants in meeting the multiple challenges of settling and assimilating into American society.
In 1996, the Charitable Irish Society instituted the Silver Key Awards to be conferred upon individuals whose dedication and persistence in helping new immigrants to meet their potential has been outstanding. In recent years, the Silver Key Awards and Reception has enabled the Charitable Irish to distribute approximately $30,000 to needy individual immigrants in New England.
