SoftChalk Announces Lesson Challenge Winners

Three Chalkies to receive an award of $500 for their outstanding work.

SoftChalk Announces Lesson Challenge Winners
Richmond, VA, May 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- SoftChalk, LLC, a leading developer of content authoring software for eLearning, today announced the three winners of its first Lesson Challenge. SoftChalk hosted this challenge to recognize leaders in the educational community who are creating innovative lessons using SoftChalk.

The Lesson Challenge, an online contest that ran from early February through April 1, gave SoftChalk enthusiasts a chance to use their lessons for something besides engaging students – winning money. Authors could submit an unlimited number of lessons into one of the three audience categories: K12, Under Graduate, and Graduate (professional studies and training). The Challenge was well received with 85 submissions from more than 60 different authors covering a variety of subject areas, including science, health, history, and mathematics.

Steve Saltzberg, Marketing Director of SoftChalk said, “It is wonderful to see how our product can be used in such unique ways, across a variety of subjects. We are delighted to recognize the innovative lessons that instructors are creating with SoftChalk. The competition was tough this year. The volunteer judges took on a very challenging job, as even lessons that did not win were creative in so many ways.”

The top lessons were reviewed by a panel of six educators including Steven Holland, Chair of the English Department at Muscatine Community College; Dr. Anne Loochtan, Associate Dean at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College; Georgianna Skinner, Director of Technology at Hampton Public Schools; Brit Watwood, Online Learning Specialist at Virginia Commonwealth University; and Drs. Rena Palloff and Keith Pratt, managing partners of Crossroads Consulting Group, program directors and faculty at Fielding Graduate University.

The judges reviewed lessons based on specific categories including lesson creativity, professionalism, interactivity, and how well the lesson reinforces student learning. The highest-scoring lesson from each of the three groups was chosen as the winner for the audience category.
