EQUELLA 4.1 – Extending the Vision

Denver, CO, November 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Learning Edge North America, providers of leading digital repository, EQUELLA – announce the upcoming release of Version 4.1, to be previewed at EDUCAUSE 2009.

EQUELLA 4.1 continues to build upon the concept of ‘Content as a Platform’, recognizing the role that content plays within all learning environments. EQUELLA 4.1 focuses upon enabling improved access, classification and interaction with your institution’s content.

“EQUELLA 4.1 maintains our focus towards providing a solution that enables easy access to institutional learning content,” said Bob Cupitt, Chief Executive Officer, The Learning Edge North America. “The new taxonomy engine enables much more extensive, dynamic classification such as for institutional, state, regional, and national curricula. We continue to focus on extending our easy-to-use interface and CMS integrations, while also delivering enhancements that facilitate the system maintenance of massive enterprise scale repositories that EQUELLA increasingly powers around the globe.”

A highlight of EQUELLA 4.1 is the extension of the EQUELLA Agents Framework. The EQUELLA Agents Framework is the suite of services that enable 3rd parties to integrate with EQUELLA. EQUELLA 4.1 extends the existing framework, further enabling our consultants, clients, and partners to independently create applications that leverage EQUELLA functionality. EQUELLA Agents are currently in use at many institutions – the enhancements in version 4.1 will provide a further boost to content-related innovation.

“EQUELLA 4.1 has been developed in collaboration with members of our global Customer Advisory Boards,” said Christian Andree, Product Manager. “There is a strong focus on providing all levels of users with a dynamic platform that fosters improved outcomes for users from all areas, including Teaching and Learning, Research, and the Library.”

Other highlights of this release include:

Taxonomy Engine: The new taxonomy engine can scale to extremely large taxonomies, provides enhanced browsing and selection controls, allows for values to be gathered from external sources, and provides useful programmatic access to this functionality.

SideBar Wizard Navigation: To assist in the display of large contribution wizards, EQUELLA 4.1 now includes support for both tabular and sidebar wizard navigation.

Integration Enhancements: Various enhancements to a user’s interaction between EQUELLA and their institution’s CMS of choice have been incorporated as part of EQUELLA 4.1, including version selection and one-click adding of EQUELLA items.

Usability Enhancements: With help from our client base, we have identified and fixed many usability issues. These issues range from having more descriptive error messages through to user interface tweaks that ensure a more pleasurable user experience.

In-place EQUELLA Upgrades: EQUELLA 4.1 introduces In-place EQUELLA Upgrades, designed to ensure upgrading to major version of EQUELLA is quicker, easier and more cost effective.
