Irvine BMW and Irvine MINI Continuing Giant Efforts to Clean Up Area Beaches

Orange County dealership enters team into Rockwater 2010 relay race

Irvine, CA, March 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Irvine BMW and Irvine MINI are proud to announce their support and participation in the upcoming third annual Rockwater race – hosted by the Surfrider Foundation’s Newport Beach Chapter – as part of its ongoing commitment to cleaning up and preserving Orange County’s beaches.

The Rockwater race is a 28.9-mile course from the mountains to the ocean along the Santa Ana River Watershed – starting at the head of the Santa Ana River trail at the border of Orange and Riverside Counties and finishing at the river’s mouth in Huntington Beach.

Adding another element to the Rockwater relay race, teams will collect litter during the race and a prize will be awarded to the team that hauls in the most trash. More information is available at surfridernb.com/site/rockwater-2010.

“A watershed is any river, gully, canyon or pathway that drains to the ocean,” said Irvine BMW General Sales Manager Steve Rudkin. “Watersheds are everywhere and anything on land can find its way to the ocean via a watershed, meaning if you throw something on the ground it may eventually end up in the ocean.”

The Rockwater relay race is yet another phase in Irvine MINI’s commitment to protecting Orange County’s 42-mile coastline. Irvine MINI has also pledged support to Miocean, a nonprofit organization founded in 2002 to draw attention to pollution resulting from urban runoff.

Channeling the artistic know-how of a character called Madsteez, aka Mark.Paul.Deren, Irvine MINI wants to raise money to benefit Miocean. The dealership has donated a brand new MINI, which Madsteez is using as his latest canvas and transforming the vehicle into one of his infamous Weenimal characters – the MINIween. The one-of-a-kind MINI Cooper will make an appearance at the Rockwater relay race on March 20. Follow the MINIween project online at miniween.com.

Irvine MINI's professional sales team, large selection of new and certified pre-owned MINIs and one of the most comprehensive parts and service departments in the automotive industry have made Irvine MINI a premier dealership in the country.
