New Resource for the Community: Sustainability Classes & Event Space in Sacramento

Now there is a one-stop resource for the Sacramento community on everything related to a sustainable home and lifestyle. Residents can attend a class hosted by the Green Living Center, host community events, or even rent the space for a private party.

Sacramento, CA, April 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Earlier this month Green Sacramento launched a new one-of-a-kind education and event space, Green Living Center (GLC) Education and Events Facility. The GLC aims at providing educational opportunities around various topics of sustainability and green lifestyles to Sacramento and the greater Northern California area. With the new facility, the Green Living Center Education and Events Center will focus on classes for the public and for the design, construction and building maintenance and operation industries.

New Saturday classes start this month.
· 4/10 - Getting started on your green remodel: This class will cover some basic concepts in green building and remodeling, including materials options, energy efficiency considerations and construction practices and methods. Learn what to look for when choosing contractors as well. This class will be taught by the team at Green Sacramento and Green Sacramento Construction Services.
· 4/17 - Understanding energy programs and rebates in the Sacramento area – Energy efficiency programs and rebates in the Sacramento area – Learn about the opportunities in the Sacramento area to make your home more energy efficient and identify how to get that work subsidized by the utilities and government agencies. The instructor for this class is Tommy Young from E3/Norcal
· 4/24 - Greenscaping: Landscape Tune-ups for Water Efficiency – Warm weather has arrived, and so have water meters for many Sacramento homeowners. This course will provide an overview of strategies for reducing landscape water use, including design, plant selection, irrigation tune-ups and new technologies. Save water and money. This information-packed 2-hour class will be presented by Ed Chandler, founder and Principal Landscape Architect of Loft gardens | Landscape Architecture.
· 5/1 - Greening your next party, event or upcoming wedding – Do you want to take some steps to make your next event less wasteful and more environmentally conscious without compromising the style and elegance that you desire? What should you look for in a caterer to ensure that you are getting healthier foods without compromising on taste and appearance? Melissa Smith owns and operates Shades of Green Event Services and operates the Education and Events Facility at the Green Living Center.
