A Taste of India, with Rewarding Opportunities in Kerala with GVI

Ethical volunteering organization, Global Vision International (GVI), have recently launched a new volunteer project in Kerala, South India, working and teaching at orphanages and schools with vulnerable and underprivileged children. Volunteers experience a taste of the culture in India while making a significant difference in the lives of the children that GVI work with.

Boston, MA, April 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Busy days are spent taking care of children and becoming involved in hands on teaching, storytelling, singing, playing games and creating artwork. The education and arts programs focus on fun and interactive activities in an informal environment. GVI staff, and other more experienced volunteers provide plenty of support for new volunteers. Volunteers will be given the curriculum, ideas on lesson planning and some introductory information on child development and will soon gain skills necessary to handle young children. As with all of GVI’s projects the volunteer contribution will not only help fund the project but it will also assist with the supply of study materials to the children and the purchase of project equipment to the local partners.

Living in the heart of the local community volunteers will experience the rich culture of India first hand, with the project based around the port city of Kochi (Cochin). The weekends are free to indulge in the wealth of activities and places to explore with opportunities for cruising along the tranquil backwaters in a houseboat, and visiting some of the beaches, lush villages and spice plantations in the surrounding area. Volunteers can immerse themselves in more culture and learn how to cook the exotic local cuisine, watch a traditional Kathakali dance performance or simply relax and take an Ayurveda massage.

As no previous experience is required this is an exciting and adventurous way to explore the world of teaching and childcare, developing or learning new skills, while making a difference to under privileged children.
