Kimberly Kids in Western Australia Urged to "Think About Their Ink" with Healthy Futures Temporary Tattoos

Melbourne, Australia, November 15, 2010 --( Temporary tattoos created by leading Melbourne company, TattooAds, have been used to imaginative, and very welcomed effect as part of the Healthy Futures campaign. The campaign aims to teach and encourage the use of basic hygiene skills in order to prevent both acute and chronic illnesses in remote Aboriginal populations. This inititative builds on the proven success of many other overseas programs like it. The temporary tattoos used in this campaign were a central engagement item of the campaign.

TattooAds, a leading Melbourne temporary tattoo manufacturer, recently had their products featured in the "Healthy Futures" campaign administered by the KAMSC (Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council). The temporary tattoos were seen as a central ingredient in the campaign, helping to target and engage children that are normally isolated from traditional media.

The Healthy Futures' materials which TattooAds temporary tattoos were used to support, centred around step-by-step handwashing and tooth brushing posters, storybooks and free toolkits including toothbrushes and toothpaste, pump soap, washing powder and shampoo in a calico bag.

The Healthy Futures' materials, including TattooAds temporary tattoos, used several strategies to engage remote Aboriginal communities with the health messages, including:

- Culturally appropriate material and graphics
- Practical, simple and age-appropriate messages
- A rhythmic and appealing supporting television commercial
- Community involvement strategies

The Healthy Futures campaign takes symbolic campaign elements out into the community to reach people where traditional media has very little impact. This is a similar strategy to currently running and hugely successful Movember campaign. In the Movember initiative, men are encouraged to grow moustaches for the month of November in order to raise awareness of prostate cancer and money for research into treatments.

"Our temporary tattoos will help engage people with the message, until they can see the benefits of the health initiative actions for themselves," Ms. Higgins explained.

"This non-standard product helped the campaign succeed in a place where traditional media rarely reaches," Mrs. Higgins finished.
