Companies Find Alternative Storage & Warehousing Methods
Kansas City, MO, December 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- American Trailer & Storage, Inc. (doing business as AT&S), a portable storage and transportation equipment sales and rental company, announced a record-breaking month in November 2010 as demand for storage trailers and containers reached all time highs.

“We’ve seen demand increase from several industry sectors, including Transportation, Retail, Manufacturing and Distribution,” said Rick Honan, President of AT&S. “Companies are searching for ways to quickly increase their warehousing and storage capacities without committing themselves to long-term leases and other capital expenditures,” he added.

As most companies remain tentative about the future, businesses are more innovative in the methods used to warehouse and store goods and materials without leasing building space. AT&S experienced a significant increase in companies using semi-trailers and storage containers to handle increased inventory levels. Companies can easily and quickly rent storage trailers to load seasonal merchandise or materials at a warehouse dock and then store the trailer in their lot or other facility until such time the goods or materials are needed. This eliminates the need to lease additional warehouse space at a time when the economic future remains uncertain. Facilities without loading docks rent ground-level storage containers that are delivered to their location and provide immediate on-site storage space with easy access.

“Our storage and cartage equipment offers an extremely low-cost solution to temporary and seasonal fluctuations in storage,” said Dale Martens, Director of Sales at AT&S. Companies can rent large quantities of space in a very short period of time. AT&S recently delivered over 100 storage units to a single customer in less than one week. In this case, “AT&S was able to save our customer hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual detention fees by trans-loading inbound freight into storage trailers,” Martens added.

AT&S’ revenues also benefited from a significant shortage in the world-wide availability of shipping containers and national shortage of semi-trailers in the US. Manufacturing of such equipment dropped significantly the past several years and much of the previous excess has been taken out of the transportation systems via scrap or otherwise. “This year’s increase in freight placed a premium on transportation equipment. We anticipate this will continue well into 2011,” said Martens.
