Local Hair Stylist Transforms Parking Space Into Salon: Mishi Nova Celebrates PARK(ing) Day with Eco-Friendly Hair Makeovers

San Francisco, CA, September 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- This Friday is PARK(ing) day and local eco-hair stylist Mishi Nova will be offering 10-minute street makeovers in her “hair parklet” located on Mission St. between 3rd and New Montgomery in SOMA.

PARK(ing) day, originating in San Francisco, has now become an international event. The idea sparked from a new urbanism movement in making the streets more people centric and less of the doldrums of business buildings and cars. These “street interventions” are demonstrated by citizens co-opting a typical parking space and temporarily creating places for people to hang out and interact.

“I have always been a renegade do-gooder and have been looking for ways to be a little more eccentric, put myself out there as a hair artist, and make my community a better place to live in,” says Mishi Nova.

Mishi Nova, founder of Morphic hair studio, will be staging a hair intervention at the Morphic parklet by quickly transforming everyday hairstyles into a quick 10-minute work of art. Nova plans to demonstrate her eco-friendly styling techniques with a basic salon set up—styling chair, Barcelona, hair accessories, lychee iced tea, and of course, eco-friendly flowers for adornment and to accessorize hair styles. She will also transform her parklet into a digital media center with free Wi-Fi and a live stream of the event that will be broadcast via Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. Guests will be able to record and broadcast their makeover to friends using available social media tools and an iPad webcam. There will also be live broadcasting of the event on Flickr at PARK(ing) Day:San Francisco and Mishi’s blog mishination.net/wordpress-mishination, facebook.com/morphicbeauty and twitter @morphicbeauty.

“I believe in the mission and purpose of PARK(ing) Day and want my parklet to include everything that exemplifies whats important to San Francisans, including eco-friendly hair solutions.”

The entire event will be complementary and donations will be accepted by adding quarters to the parking meter. Guests who tweet or post about it on the spot will also receive styling gifts provided by Rene Furterer.
