Orlando, FL, November 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- G&T Conveyor Company, the largest American owned and privately held turnkey baggage handling systems manufacturer in the United States, is pleased to announce it has successfully completed the Terminal 1 In-line baggage handling system at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The airport serves more than 22 million passengers annually and is the 22nd largest airport in the United States.

“To the outside world what the G&T Team has pulled off so far is nothing short of extraordinary, building what is arguably one of the top performing systems, if not the top, in the United States today,” commented Jimmy Dickerson, Manager Airport Security Technology, Southwest Airlines.

State-of-the-art baggage handling system

For more than three decades, G&T Conveyor Company has designed, engineered, manufactured and installed complex baggage handling systems, specializing in sortation solutions and performing hundreds of In-line integrations across the United States.

G&T was selected to engineer, manufacture and install the baggage handling system for the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International airport in an Active live bagroom / operation. The project included more than 7,000 linear feet of conveyor, 685 drives, five new slope plate make-up units, ten G&T vertical sorters and 22 G&T power face diverters.

“As an American manufacturer and BHS contractor, we are proud of our accomplishment and cohesive teamwork that was necessary to successfully complete this complex system,” said G&T Vice President and General Manager, John Cottrell. “We look forward to working with the Broward County Aviation Department and Southwest Airlines on future projects.”

Increased system capacity

In just under 22 months, G&T integrated eight new L3 6600 explosive detection screening machines and installed 30,000 sq. ft of catwalk/platforms supporting three levels of conveyors. The new system was divided into the east and west side of the terminal, each side is designed to handle up to 2,000 bags per hour. The improved system capacity will result in smoother baggage flows and an enhanced passenger experience. G&T has performed similar successful projects for Continental Airlines at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, and airport authorities at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and many others.
