)-- Edward G. (“Woody”) Connette has been selected to chair the national Board of Trustees for United Cerebral Palsy (UCP).

For more than 60 years, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) has been educating, advocating and providing support services through nearly 100 affiliates to more than 176,000 people with a spectrum of disabilities through a nationwide affiliate network to ensure a “life without limits”. With 18 members, including four officers, the Board of Trustees is a diverse and active group that plays a critical role at UCP, helping to guide the organization and its efforts to move UCP forward toward its goal to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities by supporting children and adults every day.

In the legal realm, Woody Connette is an attorney with Essex Richards, P.A. in Charlotte, N.C. Connette has a strong interest in public policy and litigation related to disabilities, health care and mental health. Connette’s volunteer work with disability groups stretches back over twenty years. He has served as the board chair for Easter Seals UCP of North Carolina and Virginia. Connette has also served on the Executive Board and as President of the National Patient Advocate Foundation and has testified in Washington on proposed changes to ERISA regulations governing employee health and disability plans.
Connette assumed his position as chair of the national Board of Trustees for UCP in September and has committed for a two-year term.
