MEGT Reinvests Government Money in the Community

Newcastle, Australia, November 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- When the Australian Government announced the additional Kickstart funding for small and medium sized Building and Construction trades on 23rd October, a community-based not-for-profit organisation, MEGT, decided to pass on the funding they receive – and add to it.

Colin McCabe, General Manager of MEGT Recruitment and Management Services explains that his organisation is eligible for funding from the government. "And that means we can reinvest it in the community not just to help stimulate jobs but also provide pastoral care for apprentices.

"MEGT has been heavily involved in supporting the building and construction industry across the region for thirty years now, mentoring young people throughout their apprenticeship and helping employers manage their apprentices. We believe we can make a difference to building and construction trades in rural and regional areas by contributing additional financial support. When an employer hires an apprentice through MEGT we will not only credit the $3,350 Kickstart, but also contribute an additional $1,650 and pass on the $4,000 wage assistance for apprentices over 25 as well as the $1,000 remote and regional area government incentive.

"In essence," explains Mr McCabe, "it means these host employers can get up to $10,000 for each apprentice they hire through MEGT as well as the apprentice management help that an organisation such as ours provides.

"We provide the sort of business and management support to employers that will help them keep trade skills in their region – rather than losing them to the cities.

"Naturally this offer relies on the Australian Government’s Kickstart Bonus scheme which is capped to 21,000 places nationally and closes on 28 February, so we anticipate we will get a lot of phone calls over the next few weeks."
