Phoenix Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Shelden Martin Talks About Common Swimming Injuries
Phoenix, AZ, November 26, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Shelden Martin recently spoke to the Neptune Swim Club regarding common injuries swimmers encounter while competing and training.
He spoke to the club on Oct. 23 about ways to prevent shoulder injuries while swimming, how to determine if an injury has occurred, when to seek the treatment of an orthopedic surgeon as well as illustrating common should injuries in swimmers and the corresponding treatments for such injuries.
“It’s important that swimmers understand the difference between the different types of injuries they face,” Dr. Martin said. “Only when a swimmer knows what to look for can they avoid serious injury.”
Dr. Martin, who is fellowship trained in sports medicine and shoulder/elbow surgery, is well accustomed to treating athletes of all ages.
Currently, Dr. Martin is the head team physician for the Arizona Rattlers and team physician for Desert Vista High School. Previously, he served as part of the team medical staffs for the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Knights, Joe Gibbs Racing Team and the University of North Carolina.
A board certified orthopedic surgeon who received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Dr. Martin performed research at the University of Pennsylvania that led to the discovery of the gene responsible for a rare genetic bone disease.
