Axcel Finance Empowers Charities in Barbados to do More
Bridgetown, Barbados, April 03, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Administrators and Executive Members of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), sporting and social clubs, and charitable organizations in Barbados are now better equipped with knowledge and techniques to source grant funding to manage and develop their organizations. Over 57 organizations participated in a workshop, hosted by Axcel Finance, including the Cancer Support Services, Diabetes Foundation, Graydon Sealy Secondary School, and the Petecostal Assembly of the West Indies.

Axcel Finance, the leading regional microfinance institution hosted this Fundraising Management Workshop for non-profit organizations which was held at the Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados on March 25, 2015. Over 100 representatives of NGOs across the island attended. Among the topics covered at the workshop were 'Effective Fundraising Techniques', 'Grant Proposal Writing & Resource Mobilization' and 'Social Media Best Practices for Non-Profit Organizations'.

In his presentation 'Effective Fundraising Techniques', Axcel Finance CEO Sam Rosenberg implored the charities to clearly articulate the benefits of their projects when seeking assistance from donor agencies. He encouraged the intensely engaged participants to always remember the need to demonstrate how giving to the cause will impact positively on the person or entity providing the funds.

Mr. Ryan Byer, Head, UWI Open Campus (Ag) discussed 'Grant Proposal Writing & Resource Mobilization', where he stressed that proposals must be transparent and logical with solid financial information on how any funds provided will be used. Mr. Buyer also stated that it is imperative to provide frequent and accurate updates to donor organizations once funds were granted for specific projects. He advised participants that their "proposal should clearly identify not only the output of the project but also the key outcomes from the project being funded."

The workshop stressed the importance of use of social media for NGO’s. During his presentation on 'Social Media Best Practices for Non-Profit Organizations', Mr. Ian Walcott-Skinner, Partner Consultant and Lead Trainer of Global Expert Systems, noted that "from the beginning of time, people have always been social (pen-pals, postcards, photo-albums), so we are just doing what we have always done through software which makes it more instantaneous." He shared many insightful statistics on rapid increase in various social media platforms in Barbados and how non-profit organizations can utilize these media to build awareness around their causes. Mr. Walcott-Skinner gave personal experiences of how social media have been positively impacting his small business operations.

Representing the Government of Barbados, Mr. Cleviston Hunte, Director of Youth Affairs in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, commanded Axcel Finance for this initiative. He highlighted the empirical approach being taken in seeking funding through public private sector partnerships. He encouraged participants to utilize the knowledge and techniques from the workshop to present compelling applications for financing.

On reflecting on the workshop after a very engaging 'Question and Answer' session, all of the participants declared that the workshop was very informative and edifying. Several participants pointed out that the seminar was a one of a kind, providing practical tips, techniques and ideas that can readily applied. Participants collectively contended that this session must be expanded in the near future so that non-profit organizations can build on the knowledge and skills gained to further assist them in their daily operations.

The event was a ground-breaking initiative undertaken by Axcel Finance and it was co-sponsored by the Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados.

Axcel Finance CEO, Sam Rosenberg believes that “It is critical to empower social organizations in order to develop and improve communities and the society as a whole.” Mr. Rosenberg affirmed that each participant represented a cause and therefore he felt confident that the workshop will ultimately impact the lives of thousands in Barbados.
