Y explore Yosemite Adventures Announces a Celebration of Art and Nature in Hetch Hetchy with Painting, Photography, and Naturalist Workshops on May 18-20

Leading Yosemite Adventure Company Announces Schedule for Spring Activities in Yosemite National Park.

Sonora, CA, March 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- On May 18-20, 2008, Y explore Yosemite Adventures will lead painting, photography, and naturalist workshops in Yosemite National Park’s Hetch Hetchy Valley. Eco-tourists and aspiring artists alike will enjoy the opportunity to visit Hetch Hetchy and appreciate the grandeur of the landscape during the annual rebirth of waterfalls and wildflowers in spring. Attendees will make their own artistic impressions while exploring and discussing the natural history of the place John Muir called “one of nature's rarest and most precious mountain temples” while participating in these interpretive sessions. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Central Sierra Arts Council of Tuolumne County.

James McGrew will lead the three day event. “After years of hiking, painting, and photography excursions as well as giving many naturalist presentations,” he reflects, “I still find Hetch Hetchy one of my favorite places.” McGrew will be joined by several local Yosemite naturalists and professional photographer guides including Christine White Loberg. James and Christine will each lead an interpretive hike to launch the events on May 18th. A two day plein air painting workshop will begin on the 19th and will be conducted by McGrew who states “Although I have taught to mostly professional artists, I have also taught workshops for many children and adults without much previous painting experience. Regardless of the background, anyone can learn to slow down to see the landscape, quickly convey its essence with pigment, and with enough practice use art as a language to speak to the audience.” Alternately, several options of morning and evening light photo field sessions will be available for May 19th and 20th as well. This will include two introductory photography classes with Evan Russel. Evening activities will consist of free slide show presentations at the Evergreen Lodge.

Founded in 2006, Y explore Yosemite Adventures is a leading provider of professionally guided hiking tours and workshops in Yosemite National Park who encourage park visitors to connect with Yosemite through outdoor experiences that offer unique photographic opportunities and lasting memories.
