Early Trends on New York’s Paid Family Leave
Garden City, NY, June 14, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Almost 27% of Paid Family Leave bonding claims were from fathers using New York’s Paid Family Leave to bond with their new baby. This finding is based on ShelterPoint Life Insurance Company’s (“ShelterPoint Life”) claim data, which is also available in an infographic on paternity leave, released to the public today. ShelterPoint Life is New York’s largest statutory disability insurance (DBL)(1) and now Paid Family Leave insurance carrier.

ShelterPoint Life assembled claims data encompassing bonding leave since the New York Paid Family Leave law went into effective on January 1, 2018. The infographic provides facts and figures on general paternity leave, and contrasts New York with reports from California and Rhode Island on bonding leave utilization. Some interesting discoveries have already emerged, for example, such as states with PFL-like programs are seeing that more dads are taking time to bond with their newborns and for a longer period of time – with the biggest impact on leaves extending beyond 4 weeks.
