Database Industry Luminary Roger Bamford Joins Xcalar as a Distinguished Fellow
San Jose, CA, May 13, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Xcalar today announces that database industry veteran and visionary, Roger Bamford, has joined Xcalar as a Distinguished Fellow. With over four decades at the forefront of relational and NoSQL database management technologies, Bamford will join Xcalar’s engineering management team, leading its efforts in developing a next-gen cloud-scale data processing platform.

Roger was Principal Architect at Oracle where he spent over 30 years as the founding father of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) that brought clustering and high availability for Oracle users. Most recently he has been Distinguished Architect at MongoDB.

“Roger is a database technology pioneer in industry. He brings together a unique blend of systems software and relational database skills. His products have been time tested for decades by millions of users,” said Vikram Joshi, Xcalar’s Co-Founder and CTO. “He is an engineer’s engineer. His extensive experience in architecting and developing world-class products will accelerate Xcalar’s ability to transform the enterprise and pave a clear path for customers struggling with a confusing array of inefficient options.”

Mr. Bamford led Oracle RDBMS version 6 and headed the Advanced Research and Development team focused on distributed and parallel computing. Prior to Oracle, he co-founded a relational database software company, and previously spent 5 years at IBM Research and IBM's Office Products Advanced Technology group. Mr. Bamford holds a BS in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

“Roger is an industry luminary in the complex and fascinating world of relational databases and computer software; a brilliant mind and a visionary,” said Vinod Khosla, a Xcalar board member, and investor. "He solidifies Xcalar’s world-class team and strengthens the foundation that is set to fundamentally change modern-day relational databases by bringing in SQL, NoSQL and data infrastructure expertise."

“Xcalar’s technology and achievements are impressive,” said Roger. “The platform is transformative in its approach to helping users build and operationalize scale-out data processing business applications. I am excited to bring my experience to help deliver Xcalar’s products that have an opportunity to change the game with one of the industry's most powerful scale-out relational compute platforms that is fronted by a sophisticated IDE, Xcalar Design, for language-agnostic programming and procedural SQL.”
